Tech Transfer Considerations

Successful technology transfer is an essential component of the gene therapy development process, as most gene therapy companies rely on contract service providers for clinical and commercial manufacturing. Good contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs) have established processes in place for tech transfer, including structured means of communication to ensure true collaboration with their clients, IP protection programs, solutions that ensure data security, and good documentation practices. Those CDMOs that offer end-to-end services from plasmid manufacturing to fill/finish and release also offer the advantage of running programs under a single master supply agreement, which can simplify many aspects of tech transfer. Furthermore, truly effective CDMOs have additional solutions offered in the background that help make the tech transfer process more efficient.
